Moscow is the capital of the Russian Federation. The area of the city is about 30 km in diameter, and the population reaches almost 10 million people. Currently, Moscow is the most important political and financial center of Russia and is home to the government and parliament. This is the city with the most money in Russia and the third largest budget in the world. This is a place where all Russian tensions and inequalities meet to coexist, creating a unique sense of a city that looks European, but feels somewhat Asian in its mood and intensity.
In the center of the European part of Russia, 8 hours by car or train from St. Petersburg, 4 hours by plane from London, 2.5 hours by plane from Berlin (or 36 hours by train), 6 hours by plane from India, 6 days by trans-Siberian train from Beijing.

Getting Around the City

The main historical core of Moscow is the Kremlin (the fortress is in the photo), which is located in the center of the city. Tverskaya Street, which is the main street of the city, starts from the Kremlin and heads north, turning into the Leningrad Highway, which leads directly to St. Petersburg (750 km).
Moscow has a radial structure, and the Garden Ring determines the center of the city. The Lesser Boulevard Ring defines the center of the city.
To find the right building on any street, it is useful to know that in Moscow the numbering of houses starts from the center. In addition, houses with odd numbers are on the left, and houses with even numbers are on the right. So, if you are looking, for example, Tverskaya Street, No. 2, it will be located very close to the Kremlin (which is the most central place in Moscow), to your right (if you turn your back). to the Kremlin).

Climate in Moscow

Moscow is located in the middle of the continent, so the temperature is restrained, which means hot weather in summer and cold weather in winter.
The hottest months are July and August, when temperatures can reach + 30-35 degrees Celsius. They are followed by mild September, which turns into Indian summer – the last warm days of the year, usually at the end of the month. In October, autumn begins, and by the end of the month the temperature may drop to zero.
